Australians

Two babies were born on the same day. One was born in England and the other in Australia. The baby born in England lived a long, happy life and died surrounded by their family. The baby born in Australia had a different upbringing, they were taken away from their family, lived in confinement and murdered after only living a fraction of their life. No one cared though, because they were born Australian and that’s what happened to Australians.

Oh wait, I’ve got this totally wrong. Let’s try again…

Two animals were born on the same day. One was born a dog and the other a cow. The dog lived a long, happy life and died surrounded by their family. The cow had a different upbringing, they were taken away from their family, lived in confinement and murdered after only living a fraction of their life. No one cared though, because they were born a cow and that’s what happened to cows.

If we claim to be a society which does not treat a person any differently because of their gender, the colour of their skin or the place they were born, then how do we justify treating animals differently based on their species?

Question for dog owners: Would you allow your dog to be forcefully impregnated, puppies taken away and killed, just so that your dog’s milk could be taken to make a profit? I hope you’ve answered no. Now, would you allow a cow to suffer the same fate? Surely protecting one species from cruelty but contributing to the suffering of another is along the same lines as racism… But this is called speciesism.

Speciesism needs to end.

Regarding Australia: I asked Wonderful Husband to pick a country at random. I have no issues with Australians 🙂

This was so painful to read but so true and awareness needs to be created!!! We need to understand our place in the world and how we affect those who cannot speak.

Such a powerful message and I couldn’t agree more! ❤ Here in Toronto, we have signs up on our subway that show a baby chick and a kitten and it says something like "why murder one, and keep the other as a pet?"… I wish more people would wake up and see this. 😦

Gosh that sounds like a fantastic campaign! Isn’t it wonderful that we are now seeing these messages in the mainstream media. Not long before speciesism comes to an end. Thank you for your mega comment Emily! 💚

Good point! I don’t know why one species is valued over another. I agree that spiecism really needs to stop. Is there a way to not be vegan, but still ensure that cows are treated with the utmost care and respect possible?

Thank you for the great comment, Patricia! I wish that there were a way to let cows be treated with respect and care, they call that ‘organic’ in the farming industry, but the cow still gets murdered, and I’m pretty sure we can agree that the cow doesn’t ‘want’ to die as that would be against the laws of nature. I really appreciate your question as it is super important to talk about all avenues 💚

Amazing article!! Really made me think. But! How would one be a vegan if they can’t eat soy, corn, or beans? I only ask because I am allergic to all three, and I would really like to include 3 plant based high protein meals a week to my meal plan.

Ah thank you for the lovely comment and I think your question is a mega one, Leah.

To answer your question: If you’re eating a varied diet then you’re probably getting enough protein already, however if you do want to pile it in then you could eat nuts of all kinds (I love peanut butter!), seeds (like sunflower seeds) grains (are you allergic to quinoa?), lentils (do they have the same effect for you as beans?) and also plant-based meats and plant-based milk. Even most whole-grain foods like oatmeal, brown rice, and pasta have a good amount of protein.

I hope this helps! So do let me know if you have any more questions or if I can help you in any other way 💚

Thank you. I used cows as an example to how we treat domesticated animals differently to farm animals. I did not mean to try and give the impression I was just speaking up for cows 🙂 Thank you for your comment 💚

I love this blog post. Thank you for putting the horrors of animal agriculture into words. So many people wouldn’t dream of hurting their dogs and yet they have no problem eating animals at every meal. It’s time for people to wake up. : (

In many countries people eat all types of proteins not just beef or chicken. If you find what’s available for nourishment and treat it respectfully I think your our beliefs should guide you
