I’m Sending Love

Let’s take advantage of the romantic season by sending a little love to the ones that need it the most… Chickens.

Did you know that chickens probably suffer the most of all the farm animals? This is because

  1. More chickens are killed than any other species of farm animal. Not only this, but people (with very good intentions) that cut down on their consumption of red meat normally replace it with chicken, meaning even more chickens die.
  2. There is NO LAW which states how chickens should be slaughtered. This means that factory farms use the most cost-effective method possible, which is normally: hung upside down on a conveyer belt, dunked in electrified water and dragged across a blade, slicing their throat open to commence a slow death. That’ll do the trick.
  3. Over years, chickens have been designed and bred to lay more and more eggs, putting incredible strain on their bodies. After approximately two years, when there is a reduction in their lay rate, they are slaughtered for meat (remember: no law!). Well, they’re slaughtered unless the farmer is extra nasty and decides to prolong their suffering by doing something called forced molting… I won’t go into the details here.

In light of this information, I’m sending love to all of the factory-farmed chickens.

I’m sending love to all of the factory-farmed male chicks that are, right now, being crushed alive because they offer no use to the factory farming industry.

I’m sending love to all of the factory-farmed chickens that are, right now, getting their beak burnt off.

I’m sending love to all of the factory-farmed chickens that are, right now, living in cages, covered in faeces and soon to be slaughtered.

I’m sending love to all of the factory-farmed chickens that are, right now, being hung upside down on the conveyer belt, moving slowly towards the blade that will slice their throat open.

How can you send love to chickens too? Stop eating them.

Save these beautiful, intelligent, social, emotional, innocent animals by choosing not to eat chicken or egg. And if you’re worried about all the cakes and desserts that you won’t get to make if you quit eating eggs, then check out this mega list of egg replacements.

A final, personal, note about Wonderful Husband… He has recently completed Veganuary (vegan for January) and he’s now about to go vegan for Lent. I can’t begin to tell you guys what this means to me. He doesn’t share the same feelings as I do for animals yet he has made a huge effort to empathise and go vegan (it helps that he is in the greatest shape of his life!). I am so, so grateful for his efforts and on that note: If anyone knows of any holidays coming up that I could suggest he go vegan for, then comment below 😉

Mega thanks to Steven Stankiewicz for letting me use his mega design as my cover photo. You can find more of his non-chicken art here.

As always, thanks for reading and happy Valentine’s day 💚

Yay for your hubby, that’s so exciting! Tell him a very big thank you for me 😉 I have completed Veganuary as well and found it to be amazing. And yes, it definitely has helped my figure, too! Now for the sad stuff…
Yesterday, my Auntie made chicken wings for the rest of the family and I quite literally had to leave the room to cry afterwards. Think about a package of wings at the store, they typically have 15-20 wings inside. That’s 10 chicken right there, which is so crazy.

Ah thank you for the lovely comment – will make sure to pass on the thanks to him 🙂

So sad when we start seeing the quantity of death which takes people 5 minutes to eat and then 5 minutes to forget… But a lot of people are waking up and seeing what we see, we just have to be there to help them along. I know you’re going to inspire lots of people in the next coming months and I know your family LOVE the vegan food you’re introducing them to! 💚

preach it! I’m vegan and my sister became vegetarian a few weeks back, and I’m so proud of her… Once we get to understand what surrounds us, and how wrong some traditions are, we can see what is going on in the world and that all animals deserve to be loved and cared for!

You are so right Kylie. To make laws protecting animals would be the first step but hopefully we’ll get to a point where animals are no longer considered food in the countries where it isn’t neccessary. I really appreciate you reading and taking the time to comment 💚

As a vegan and person who works full time for animals, thank you for your post about chickens. They deserve so much better than the treatment they’re given on average, and it’s so important to spread awareness for them to help others see that being vegan is the most compassionate thing to do. Congrats to your husband! I’m sure you are a wonderful model! ❤

Yahhhh another vegan – thank you so much for your mega comment Kayla! So fab that you work with animals too! I agree with you, I think it’s so important to spread awareness and unfortunately a lot of people don’t want to hear the stuff we have to say, but I appreciate your comment a lot because it keeps me motivated 💚

Ah that’s such a lovely sentiment and I do wish that the conditions would at least improve for the farm animals but I don’t think there will ever exist ‘happy’ meat. I think it’s nice that you want them to be happy though 🙂 💚

I use to be vegetarian, but I am not currently. I still eat very limited amounts of meat though and try to only buy from small locally sourced farms like I grew up on. I think its good for people to know what goes on in these places, the animals don’t even look like what they are suppose to anymore because of all the genetic modifying being done. It really makes me sad that those factory type farms exist because we don’t need that many animals butchered. So much of the meat that is created just goes to waste.

My daughter’s best friend is vegan, so I always try to be understanding of her feelings and keep plenty of salad in the house when she’s over ❤️ Although we won’t be changing our diet, I respect her choices and support her

I always love reading your posts because you have such a great way of communicating without being like crazy about this stuff. I feel like when I talk about it I get a little crazed because I’m so passionate. I don’t eat chicken but I’m still working on cutting out the eggs. I’ve actually been trying to find eggs locally. A friend of mine has chickens so I just have to get the eggs from her. And I know they’re treated well there.

Ah thanks as always for the lovely comment, Christina 🙂

When I first went vegan, I went a little crazy but now I’ve learnt to take a deep breath and actually say (and write) things in a way that people might listen… It’s probably not how I’m feeling inside though lol.

I think that’s fantastic that you’re trying to source local eggs, especially if you know they are from your friend. Haveyou ever tried baking without eggs? There are a lot of fab alternatives! 💚
